Dear Kindergarten Parents,
I am sorry to have been out of the classroom last week. My dear sweet mother passed away. Mrs. Pam Smith will continue to teach for me. I will return Monday, February 27th. Thank you for your condolences, prayers and well wishes. This has been the biggest shock and saddest time in my life.
I hope you're enjoying this holiday weekend! It is nice to get a break from the rain! Remember, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, February. 20th. We will continue learning about our US Presidents. We will read our Scholastic News about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The students will do a George Washington and Abraham Lincoln sorting activity.
Word of the Week: "we", "me", "be"
The students will attend a Math Festival this coming Tuesday morning so we will not be having RTI that day. If you would like to volunteer for the Math Festival, please contact the school office.
In Math, the students are doing a great job solving word problems. They are able to explain their answers using one or more of our math strategies. Please continue to practice number writing and number recognition 1-20. Thank you for your help at home!
In Writer's Workshop, the students will write "Why their favorite color is the best!".
The students are progressing nicely in reading. Kinder teachers will read with your child this week using their take-home book. As a reminder, this is not a race to the finish line. Students should be reading their book fluently and accurately without pausing every few seconds to sound out words. In kindergarten, we call this "reading like a robot". I actually want students to try and avoid reading "like a robot". Also, students should be able to answer questions about the characters, setting, and events in the story before they turn it in. We will be sending notes home if we find that your child needs more practice with their book. Also, please sign the envelope before your child turns it in. Your child will get a new book when the envelope is signed by a parent/guardian. Thank you!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
