Hello Kindergarten Families,

Here is what's going on in Kindergarten next week:

Art/Music/Science: Students will learn songs and create art that is focused on classic Halloween animals such as black cats, bats and spiders! This week, they will be making glittery spider webs, spider hats and study the different body parts of a spider.

Reading: Students will begin a new series of take-home readers that focus on sounding out simple 3-letter words. The first book is called "Cat Sat" and it teaches the "-at" word family which includes words such as cat, hat, bat, and sat. Listen to your child read these books each night until they can read them fluently. If you feel that your child needs additional practice, ask them to write a list of as many words as they can that rhyme with "cat" (or whatever the "word family" focus is that week).

Math: Students will practice counting forward and backward within 20 using the number line and "counting collections".  The students will also practice writing and counting numbers to 20 with a focus on 11-20 (teen numbers).

Word of the Week: "and".  By now your child should be able to read and write the following sight words: I, like, and, see, a, go, the, to, my. Please review these words  (make flash cards) daily at home with your child if needed.

A special thanks to the Arzabal, Taylor, Voorhees, Wall, and Wilson families for the generous contributions to our Writers Workshop program. Also, a  shout out thank you to the Lee family for the Lincoln Logs, chess set, books and fun puzzles! I want to thank Sharon Voorhees for all her help with our grade level prep work!  We are so blessed to have such a supportive community in Kindergarten this year! Many thanks to you all!

Reminder: Our school's Harvest Festival is next Friday, October 14th.  This is SUCH a fun event! We hope to see you there!

Have an awesome week!
