Hello Kindergarten Families,
Here is what's happening in Kindergarten next week:
Language Arts: I will introduce the new Word of the Week: "like". Remember, Word Wall Words are words that must be memorized and cannot be sounded out. It would be helpful to create your own Word Wall at home (or just use flashcards) to help your child learn, memorize and write these words daily until they have been mastered. This week, we read 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' and we identified all of the "see" words in the book. Next week students will choose a classmate's name and write "I see _______ (name of that classmate) and "I like ____". In Writer's Workshop, students will be learning the concept of storytelling as they draw and write about their own experiences. We will occasionally send some of their Writer's Workshop stories home but the majority of their papers will remain in their Writing Folders at school to use throughout the process of Writer's Workshop (drafts, editing, and eventually revisions).
Handwriting Focus Letters: K,k and "Magic C" Letters: C,c, E.e. Some students still need to practice writing their names correctly with an uppercase first letter and the rest of the letters being lowercase. Please spend time helping them with this every day until it is mastered.
Math: We will continue to study patterns, counting with our "Counting Collections" and identifying/writing numbers 1-5.
Thank you to everyone who signed up at Back to School Night to volunteer in our classroom! Centers will begin the week of September 12th from 12:45- 1:55. Please remember to go to our school's office to get information about being fingerprinted and getting your TB test prior to this date ( Or you will not be able to volunteer until you do). If the school already has this information on file from previous years, then you're all cleared to volunteer! WE still have room for volunteers to sign up on Mondays , Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If it is your day to come in, please arrive by 12:40, sign-in at the office and get a visitor sticker, then come to our classroom to see what Center activity you are leading that day. If you are ever unable to attend, it is very important that you find a replacement or let me know in advance because the lessons that I plan rely heavily on adult leadership/supervision.
I hope you have a long wonderful weekend with your families,
Catherine Werner
