Hello  Kindergarten Families!

Here is what's going on in Kindergarten next week:

Reading: Students will be reading "Nat, Pat and Nan" and continue to focus on the "_at" and "_an" word families.

Word of the Week: "for"

Writer's Workshop: Our hard working writers have almost completed their very first books!  Each of these narrative stories have a beginning, middle and end and are complete with a beautiful handmade cover.  The instructions of how to make these books was very guided, but the writing was all done independently and I am very proud of the way that the my writers used sight words and "sounded out" spelling to create their sentences!

Math: Students are using dice and 5-frames to practice the concept of "counting on".  You can do this at home with your child by rolling a dice or just saying a number and asking your child to count on from that number.  They will also continue to practice adding and subtracting with the use of a number line.

Our Halloween themed activities for next week include playing a fun "Trick or Treat" game which reviews letter names, letter sounds, sight words and numbers.  For art, they will be making skeletons out of Q-tips! The students have been enjoying all of our Halloween inspired songs and chants in class such as "5 Little Pumpkins", "5 Little Bats" and "Halloween Cat"- ask your child to sing these songs to you at home!

Special thanks to Carol Dudley and Dina Lee for planning such a fun Halloween Party for our class! I can hardly wait!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Catherine Werner
