Here is what's going on in class next week:

Handwriting: We will begin to focus on writing "straight line letters". Next week we will work on Letters  Ii, L,I, T,t, X,x and V,v. When helping your child write letters at home, remind them that when forming letters, they always start at the top and go down. Students are also practicing how to write their name correctly- beginning with a capital letter and following with all lower case letters. We will teach them to think of a "Big Momma Duck (capital letter) with a line of Little Baby Ducks (lowercase letters) following". Please reinforce these skills at home with DAILY handwriting practice if needed.

Math: We will focus on the concept of number recognition, counting and writing numbers 1-5 correctly. We are also focusing on shapes and patterns.

Phonemic Awareness/Art: We will continue our "Nursery Rhyme" theme.  The students are enjoying these rhymes and art projects and are having fun coming up with their own silly rhymes as well!

Science/Social Skills: We will be studying the brain and using a new curriculum called "MindUp" which teaches the students strategies for improving focus and developing a positive mind-set in both school and life. Through this program and class meetings, we will teach students how to resolve conflicts appropriately and build peer relationships.

We will be visiting our school's computer lab every Wednesday and will be using lessons on www.Starfall.com<http://www.starfall.com/>.  We also visit the school's library on Mondays and listen to books that are read by our school's librarian, Mrs. Deering.
On Wednesdays, we have "Reading Buddies" time with Mrs. Mayer's 4th grade class. We will be reading, writing, doing art projects and playing outside with our Buddies throughout the year.
